What does it mean to be part of a family? It is to be a member of a group of people who are meant to there for you through the good times and the bad; who celebrate victories, yet grieve together with defeats and losses. While our society normally thinks of family as people we are genetically or blood related to, which is certainly true, Barren Ridge thinks of family as those who are blood bought and spiritually bound together for eternity. Being family at Barren Ridge, means being a part of a whole. Christ says the Church is the Body of Christ. So one body meant to stick together. (I Corinthians 12)
Our church family rejoices together the weddings and new babies, new jobs, healings, advances, but we also stand by one another through the sicknesses, the loss of jobs, failures, set backs and the deaths. Together we cheer for one another, pray for one another, take each other to the doctor, and cry with one another and helpfully provide for one another. We are the hands and feet of Christ together. We are present for one another and involved beyond just the surface talk of “Let me know if you need anything” or “I’ll be praying for you”. We are a congregation small enough to be intimate, but large enough to provide various resources for those whom we love. We are sheep who flock together and faithfully hold each other up with Christian love and service.

We are a do it, don’t just say it church. What’s more is that we are not a closed shop. We have open arms to receive new family members. There is room at the table for those yearning for a place; those wanting to learn about our Savior and those wanting to belong.
